The awe-inspiring power of human achievement is one of the legacies of the world’s first Transcontinental Railroad. Its completion was a grand feat. Spike 150 and the 150th Anniversary (1869-2019) celebrates and honors those who envisioned, engineered, financed, and built it. This celebration will represent the many different cultures and backgrounds who witnessed history. Together they created a new era in connecting people, moving goods and contributing to America’s industrial and agricultural accomplishments.

  • How did the Transcontinental Railroad Change Utah’s Economy?

    Students will read about how the railroad changed Utah’s economy. The students will write a letter as an immigrant farmer or miner to their friends and families about how the railroad has changed Utah’s economy.
